Project Description
This project is in fulfillment of three courses' final projects: Dr. Marino's WGSST2550, Dr. Bystydzienski's WGSST4575, and Dr. Swenson's WGSST4524. Each of the pages in this section of the website focus on a different aspect of the South China Mission and/or Harriet Noyes.
Section one, "Harriet Noyes," is a critical biography of Harriet Noyes studying Harriet, the historical context in which she lived and worked, and the implications of her work.
Section two, "South China Mission," is an organizational study of how the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions operated at home in the U.S.A., and abroad in its South China Mission based in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.
Section three, "Work," is an analysis of the forces, choices, and values that led Harriet to be a missionary, as well as the compensation of women missionaries compared to male missionaries.
